Legal Assistant - IP Litigation (Plaintiff/Defense)

Location: San Diego, CA
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Salary: Up to $95,000 (DOE)
Work Model: Hybrid (up to four remote days per month)

About the Role

Our firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support a busy IP Litigation practice (plaintiff and defense). This role is a critical part of the litigation team, providing high-level administrative and organizational support to multiple attorneys handling complex, high-stakes matters. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced law firm environment while maintaining discretion and professionalism at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, format, proofread, and finalize legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery responses
  • Electronically file documents in state and federal courts in compliance with applicable rules and deadlines
  • Serve as a professional point of contact for clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and vendors
  • Respond to inquiries and accurately relay messages to attorneys in a timely manner
  • Manage and maintain attorneys' calendars, including court dates, depositions, client meetings, and internal deadlines
  • Schedule and confirm appointments with clients, witnesses, court reporters, and other third parties
  • Track key deadlines and proactively follow up on outstanding tasks to ensure timely completion
  • Prepare expense reports and assist with billing-related documentation
  • Provide ad hoc administrative support as needed

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred)
  • 5+ years of litigation experience, ideally supporting multiple attorneys
  • Prior experience in a mid-size to large law firm or comparable legal environment
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with legal document management systems (e.g., iManage)
  • Solid understanding of legal terminology, litigation processes, and court procedures
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
